Trex Composite Deck Installation – Warwick, NY

For this project in Warwick, NY, the homeowner wanted to replace an aging wood deck with a low-maintenance composite deck that would last for decades while improving the look of their backyard entry area.

Trex Composite Deck Build in Warwick, NY

If you’re looking for a deck builder in Warwick, NY, this recent project is a great example of how we approach a deck rebuild the right way — with strong framing, careful site planning, and premium low-maintenance materials.

For this project, we rebuilt an existing deck with new footings, new joists, and upgraded framing, then finished it with Trex Enhance composite decking, a picture frame border, a full-length step, and Trex fascia for a clean finished look.

This project gave the homeowner a more durable, more attractive outdoor space while reducing future maintenance compared to a traditional wood deck.

A photo of the existing deck prior to construction. The deck had an old composite material that was very slick and faded. We removed the decking and framing to enlarge the space to be able to hold outdoor seating.

A Full Structural Rebuild for Long-Term Performance

The deck surface was only part of the job. To ensure the new composite deck would last, we rebuilt the supporting structure with new footings and reframed the deck with new joists.

Because water damage is one of the most common causes of premature deck failure, every joist received joist tape before the decking was installed. This added layer helps protect the framing from trapped moisture and extends the life of the substructure.

For homeowners investing in composite decking, details like proper framing and moisture protection matter just as much as the finished deck boards.

Joists were set at 12" on center to stiffen up the composite, and allow us to run a longer span with our joists. We framed extra joists and blocking to accommodate the picture frame layout.

Trex Enhance Composite Decking Installation

For the finished deck surface, we installed Trex Enhance - composite decking, a popular choice for homeowners who want the look of a finished deck without the constant upkeep of traditional wood.

Trex composite decking offers several major benefits:

  • Low maintenance with no regular staining or sealing
  • Better resistance to rot, splintering, and insect damage
  • Consistent finished appearance
  • Long-term durability for everyday use

To elevate the finished look, we added a picture frame border around the deck perimeter. This creates a more polished appearance and helps define the shape of the deck visually.

We also installed the decking using Trex hidden fasteners, and Cortex fasteners which means there are no exposed face screws across the main deck surface. That gives the deck a cleaner appearance and a smoother feel underfoot.

Trex Enhance Decking is available in Grooved edges and Solid Edges. The Grooved edges allow installation with Trex hidden fastener clips, and solid boards were fastened with Cortex with color matching plugs.

Full-Length Step and Trex Fascia Finish

To complete the design, we built a full-length step across the front of the deck. This creates an easy and welcoming transition into the outdoor space while giving the front elevation of the deck a broader, more finished look.

We also installed Trex fascia boards around the perimeter to cover the framing and give the deck a clean, professional edge. Fascia makes a major visual difference on composite deck projects because it helps tie the entire build together.

These finishing details are what help transform a simple platform deck into a more polished, custom-looking outdoor feature.

Project Challenges: Gas Line and Low Deck Height

Every deck site has its own complications, and this build required careful adjustments during framing.

One challenge was navigating around a gas line in the deck footing area. This required thoughtful layout planning so the framing could work safely around the obstruction without compromising the structural design.

Another important consideration was the low deck height. Because there was not enough room for a standard drop beam configuration, we framed the deck using a flush beam instead of a drop beam. This allowed us to preserve the necessary structure while working within the limited vertical clearance.

Low-profile deck builds often require more precise planning than taller decks, especially when existing site conditions limit beam placement or excavation options.

If you’re dealing with a similar situation, our deck building page can help explain what goes into designing a deck that works with real-world site constraints.

We had to hand dig the footings because of a present gas line in the area. We located the line here digging and hitting the caution tape to help us relocate the footing.
